The Christian life is a life of submission to the Word of God. Scripture guides authority, responsibility, order, and accountability.
Authority and responsibility in the home
EPHESIANS 6:1–5 · EPHESIANS 5:22–25The family is a foundational institution established by God. Children are instructed to obey and honor their parents in the Lord; husbands and wives are called to fulfill their responsibilities in accordance with biblical teaching. We encourage love, honor, discipline, mutual respect, and responsibility under God’s Word.
Civil authority and government
ROMANS 13:1–7Civil authority maintains order, administers justice, and promotes society’s welfare. Christians are called to respect lawful authority and fulfill their civic responsibilities, in light of our ultimate accountability to God and His Word.
Spiritual authority and leadership
HEBREWS 13:17 · EPHESIANS 1:22–23 · 1 TIMOTHY 5:17 · 1 THESSALONIANS 5:12–14Spiritual leaders must teach God’s Word faithfully, provide guidance, serve with integrity, and care for those entrusted to them. Believers are encouraged to recognize faithful leadership, receive biblical instruction with humility, and contribute to the Church’s peace, unity, and spiritual development.
Leadership must be exercised with love, humility, accountability, and a sincere commitment to the welfare of God’s people. A healthy relationship between leaders and members is characterized by mutual respect, trust, sound teaching, and a shared commitment to Christ.
Spiritual maturity is not demonstrated by unquestioning loyalty to a human leader.
Rather, it is reflected in a growing understanding of God’s Word, a willingness to receive godly counsel, and a commitment to follow Christ faithfully. Spiritual authority should strengthen faith and equip believers to fulfill their God-given responsibilities.
